NFC Pet Tags: One Tap Gets Your Lost Pet Home
A Tap2Connect NFC pet tag hangs on the collar like any ID tag. Whoever finds your dog or cat holds their phone to it, and your pet’s page opens: your phone number, a second contact, the vet, allergies and medication — and a button that lets them tell you where they are.

How an NFC pet tag works
Inside the tag is a small NFC chip — the same contactless technology a phone uses to pay at a register. It has no battery and never needs charging. When a finder holds a phone near it, the phone reads a web link from the chip and opens your pet’s page in the browser. There is no app to download and nothing to line up in a camera. If you want the details, read how NFC works.
What the finder sees
- Your pet’s name, breed or description, and the area you live in
- Your phone number and a second contact, each one tap to call
- Medication, allergies and how to approach a nervous animal
- Microchip number and registry, licence or rabies tag, and your vet’s practice and phone
- A reward, if you offer one, and anything else you want them to know
- A “Notify the owner” button that sends you their location
You fill in only what you want shown. Your home address is never required — the finder can reach you without it.
Why an NFC tag instead of an engraved one
An engraved tag holds a name and a number, and when the number changes you buy a new tag. An NFC tag holds a link, so it carries far more than fits on the metal — two contacts, the vet, medical notes — and the page can be updated without replacing the tag. And unlike a QR code, it works when the tag is muddy, scratched or twisted round on the collar: the phone only has to be close.
No app and no subscription
Plenty of smart pet tags only work with their own app, or stop showing your details when a monthly plan lapses. A Tap2Connect pet tag is bought once. It works with any recent iPhone or Android phone, and the finder never has to install anything to help.

Questions people ask
Does an NFC pet tag work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. NFC reading is built into recent iPhones and practically every Android phone. The finder holds the top of the phone near the tag and the page opens — no app, no settings to change on newer models.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. The tag is bought once and your pet’s page keeps working. There is no subscription attached to it.
Does the tag need charging or a battery?
No. The chip is passive: the finder’s phone powers it for the split second it takes to read the link.
Is an NFC tag the same as a microchip?
No, and it does not replace one. A microchip is under the skin and needs a vet or shelter scanner. An NFC tag is on the collar and anyone with a phone can read it, so a neighbour can call you before your pet ever reaches a shelter. Put the microchip number on the tag’s page so both work together.
Can I change the phone number later?
Yes. The details live behind the link, not engraved on the tag, so a new number does not mean a new tag.
Does it work on cats as well as dogs?
Yes. It is a light tag that hangs from any collar ring.
